Urban Design
The site of the building is within the largest park in Taichung.  The aim is for the building to become a landmark for the city.  The minimum desired height of the building was 400 metres, and it was a requirement to have a view from the top of the building over the surrounding mountains, towards the sea. Our design for the Taiwan Tower took shape as an “iconic” gateway for culture and innovation. The concept combines the most important characteristics of modern-day Taiwan; growth into one of the largest technology economies in the world and the significance of Taiwanese culture and identity. The arched gateway is created using two conceptual layers, an 'external layer' with sustainable energy and an 'internal layer' with the most important cultural words, chosen by the people of Taiwan.  The building represents a 400m high statement about the development and identity of Taiwan.
